In order to be eligible for a California Commercial Driver’s license, the applicant must live in California and be in good standing with the Department of Motor Vehicles. The applicant is not eligible for a CDL if he or she has committed a traffic violation or has had the license suspended or revoked. The applicant is disqualified if he or she has committed the following felony crimes:

  • It is unlawful to drink and drive in California. The CDL will be denied:
  • Driver is caught operating a non-commercial vehicle with a BAC of .08% or higher
  • Driver is involved in a DUI causing bodily harm while driving with a BAC at or above the legal limit
  • Driver is operating a commercial vehicle with a BAC of .04% or higher
  • Caused bodily harm or injury while operating a commercial vehicle with a BAC of .04% of higher
  • Refused to submit to a chemical test by a police officer
  • Convicted of a serious traffic offense – 2 or more separate offenses within a 3-year period
